Very productive weekend

It’s amazing how sun changes absolutely everything. Got on with murals this weekend and by Sunday night had produced these:

Below:  On Saturday evening as I was in the studio the local Asbos (Antisocial juvenile delinquents) came and ripped the right side of the mural. On Sunday I repaired it so here you can see both versions.

And the big whale is finally on the wall, after swimming around the studio for too long:

I’m lucky to have really great, hardworking and dedicated assistants on the project. Here’s Anna, who was here on Sunday.

Unbelievable!

I can hardly believe it. Yesterday it was marginally sunny and nice and I got ready to get out and do murals. But my assistant could not make it so I put it off till Thursday – today. I wake up today and it’s RAIN AGAIN. I mean – AGAIN!

That means we had one (count it ONE) dry and barely-sunny day since exactly 1 April.

I’m glad I didn’t do a mural yesterday cos it  would not have had time to dry properly. Lesson to be learned: paste-ups are a risk in England. But even if I was using paint, the walls are streaming and nothing would work. The old crumbly walls hold a lot of damp too, that’s why whatever you’re using needs some time to dry.

please put me on the wall!

On another note, the project is featured in the excellent blog “MiddleEastLondon

in the news again

It’s great how the local press is getting behind the project, thanks Hackney Citizen and Hackney Gazette! And all the London and Street Art blogs! I really appreciate it!

and it’s great that people come back to see the progress of the murals – http://standardfact.wordpress.com/2012/04/16/here-there-every-nazir/

The weather’s still vile but the work is all ready to rock out, and so as soon as we get the go ahead from the Weatherman we’ll get a full enhanced crew out there to blast the site with the biggest most astonishing creatures your deepest depths of imagination never conjured up!

this is just one tiny section of the creature!

This one’s done

The weather has been really awful for April! Very cold, which makes it hard to be mobile when dong the fine work, and occasional very heavy showers that come and undo your work soon as you’re happy with it.

Still, we’re going strong. This wall on Laburnum Street was completed yesterday:

That’s Why I am Doing This

Today I arrived at the studio and I found a note that had been slipped in the door before I got there. It’s not from any one I know, and this note moved me very much and made me remember – despite the rain and cold, the vandals, the expense, and the sheer hard work – exactly WHY I am doing this crazy mural project.

Here it is:

For those of you out there who don’t know, Oxfordshire is not anywhere near East London and I really appreciate the effort to come and see the work, and  to write me a note of appreciation.
